St. Therese Chapel
Just to the right of the altar is a small chapel dedicated to St. Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897), known as "Little Flower." Several times in her autobiography she refers to herself as "the little flower," and this has been her ecclesiastical "nickname" ever since. She was not trying to be cute or precious; rather, she had loved and cultivated flowers ever since she was very young and she saw that flowers needed constant care and nurture if they were to grow and blossom — a symbol of God's personal care for her soul as she grew in spirit. The Marians have long had a devotion to St. Therese and view her as a "precursor" to the message of Divine Mercy. The heart of St. Therese's spirituality is her emphasis on "spiritual childhood," a way of trust and complete self-surrender to God.
