Immaculate Conception Candle Shrine
This outdoor shrine, nestled in a wooded hillside below the National Shrine, was built in 1997 to serve the pilgrims who would like to light votive candles for their prayer petitions. It contains three candle rooms, housing more than 1,600 candles. The candle shrine faces the Lourdes Grotto, a replica of the Marian apparition site in France. When Our Lady appeared to Bernadette in Lourdes, she declared, “I am the Immaculate Conception.”
